The Importance of Reusable Products

Within only six decades, we have produced the enormous 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic- mostly disposable products- new studies show- 91% of the plastic isn't recycled. “This kind of increase would ‘break’ any system that was not prepared for it, and this is why we have seen leakage from global waste systems into the oceans.” says environmental engineer, Jenna Jambeck, from the University of Georgia.

The extent of the amount of waste produced each year, it is responsible for the death of over 100 million marine animals every single year! This is not only devastating to the ecosystem but a real hazard to human health- microplastics consumed by small animals pass it back to the entire food chain.

"100% recycling is necessary but clearly insufficient to achieve sustainability"

Joan Marc Simon, Executive Director of Zero Waste Europe
